Prices: Members – 100 Baht, Non Members – 200 Baht
While Le Meridian has provided the venue for our General Meetings for several years, projected price increases for 2019 forced the board to examine other options.
Seventeen hotel or conference venues were evaluated based on these three criteria
• quality of food
A team visited each of the selected hotels for an initial check, and created a short list of five facilities. Interviews with the staff and sampling of the offered coffee service produced two finalists – one an international chain and the other a Thai owned facility.
The coffee service of both venues was excellent. The setting of one was a little more pleasing but the other offered a significantly better price. Both of these hotels are located close to the current venue.
In coming to a decision, we looked to the Chiang Mai Expat Clubs mission statement:
Expats helping expats – in service to the expatriate and the local community.
We chose the Thai hotel, Lanna Palace, whose staff impressed us with their “can do” attitude and eagerness to work with the Chiang Mai Expat Club. We agreed that choosing a Thai owned hotel would allow us to:
• significantly reduce the cost to those who attend our monthly meetings,
• embrace a local business from the city we have chosen to call home,
• have a cost-effective venue suitable for other CEC events.
As with any change, there will be some “growing pains”. This will be the first time that the Lanna Palace has worked with a large expat group. The Lanna Palace hotel has provided us with a dedicated staff liaison person and has been working with us to ensure that their facility will meet all of our needs.
We invite you to join us at our first meeting in the new location on October 27.
