Come on! You know you want to volunteer, right!
As with any well-run organization, it is imperative to be always on the lookout for new talent and expertise, especially when it comes to replacing members on the Board. (Up to 11 CEC members may serve on the Board, and currently, there are 10). This organization has been up and running now since 2005 and during these past 13 years, we’ve been most fortunate and blessed to have some very good, dedicated and talented people serving on the Board and more recently, Committees. If we didn’t have these people the CEC may have folded and disappeared from the Chiang Mai scene a long time ago.
I think most of you reading this would agree that this Club is important to not only its members but also to the constant inflow of newcomers seeking advice. I personally know this because we answer 15-20 emails a month from those looking for advice or considering retirement in Chiang Mai. Our programs have been excellent, the Friday Breakfast Clubs superb and the occasional special events throughout the year have been most pleasurable, all for a reasonable price to boot!
For Clubs such as ours, planning for organizational health and sustainability often takes a back seat to efforts to serve their constituents. So now, for the first time, the Executive Committee is starting to embark upon the task of looking at our transition-succession strategy for later this year and into the next year, as some Board members may be leaving their posts to pursue other adventures. Our focus will be a ‘Departure-Defined Succession Plan’ and a ‘Strategic Leader Development Plan’.
Of the elected officers, the Secretary will be the first area of focus in that the current secretary, Pat Corey, needs to focus more on the newsletter and website and pass the baton onto someone else. Also, your Treasurer is looking for an apprentice to learn the ropes before becoming the next Treasurer when the current Treasurer decides to step down. And of course, a new President candidate/understudy is needed as well for either 2019 or 2020 … even the most gratifying experiences must eventually come to an end.
We are always looking for talent to serve on our Standing or Ad Hoc Committees. These committees are the driving force behind getting tasks accomplished for the Club. For those who may not be aware we have the following committees:
- Executive Committee (President, Treasurer and Secretary)
- Welcoming Committee
- Programs and Events Committee
- Sponsor Committee
- Treasury Committee
- Media Committee
- OGA Committee
- Donations Committee
Ad Hoc Committees
- Special Events Committee
- Expat Outreach Committee
